When the owners of this Mt. Tabor neighborhood home set out to remodel their kitchen, they weren’t looking for something safe or expected. They wanted a space that felt personal, expressive, and full of life.
Inspired by the vibrant palette of Bitter Honey by Letitia Clark, the vision centered around color, creativity, and a willingness to make bold choices. As a creative professional, the homeowner approached the project with a clear point of view and a desire to be deeply involved in every decision.
A True Collaboration from Start to Finish
From the beginning, this project was a collaborative effort.
“This was our first big renovation and I was nervous about the project going over on time and budget, but I shouldn’t have been. That clearly isn’t how Evergreen operates.”
The homeowners wanted to be hands-on throughout the process, exploring ideas that pushed beyond typical kitchen design. Evergreen’s design-build team embraced that approach, working closely with them to refine and execute a vision that felt both playful and intentional.
“I wanted to have a LOT of input on the design and it ended up feeling like a real collaboration. Rachel and Heather put up with all my wacky choices.”
A Kitchen That Doesn’t Hold Back
The final result is a kitchen that fully leans into color, texture, and personality.
Coral cabinetry in Benjamin Moore Coral Glow sets the tone, paired with warm wood cabinetry that adds balance and depth. The backsplash brings in a cheerful checkered pattern using Zia Tile in Citron and Alpha White, creating a bold visual anchor behind the counters.
Details throughout the space reinforce the playful, curated feel:
- Sculptural wavy oak cabinet pulls introduce movement and texture
- Bright blue hardware from Allied Brass adds contrast and a pop of unexpected color
- Soft blue Flowerpot pendants and brass sconces bring warmth and cohesion
- Open shelving and arched cabinetry create moments for display and storytelling
Even functional elements were treated as design opportunities, resulting in a space that feels layered, thoughtful, and completely unique.
Designed for Everyday Life
While the kitchen is visually striking, it was equally important that it function well for daily use.
The layout was designed to improve flow and usability, while maximizing storage and workspace. Every choice, from cabinetry configuration to lighting placement, supports how the homeowners actually live in the space.
And just as important, the process itself felt smooth and well-managed.
“Kayed placed great importance on our happiness with the process and the outcome. And our kitchen turned out spectacular.”
A Space That Reflects the People Who Live There
This project is a great example of what can happen when homeowners feel comfortable bringing their full personality into a remodel.
The result is not just a beautiful kitchen, but one that feels specific, expressive, and deeply personal.
“When you do a big renovation, you really get to spend a lot of time with the team, so it’s pretty important to pick a great one.”
